Three Reports Represented On behalf of TSMU at AMEE- Conference

On September 4-9, 2015 the Conference of the European Association for Medical Education (AMEE) was held in Glasgow (Great Britain) where participated Prof. Rima Beriashvili, Vice-Rector of TSMU and Prof.Gaiane Simonia, Head of TSMU Department of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development. At the Conference, three reports were represented on behalf of TSMU. On the first day the symposium on "Case-based clinical reasoning - preclinical step teaching method" was  organized by Prof.  Ole ten Cate, Utrecht University Professor. The main report "Teaching of case-based clinical reasoning in Georgia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan" was presented  by Professor Gaiane Simonia. There were shown the clinical thinking teaching videos  by the third year students of TSMU Faculty of Medicine which evoked keen interest among the attendees.  The book "Modernizing medical Education through Case-based Clinical Reasoning", by Prof.  Ole ten Cate, Maria Van Loon and Gaiane Simonia, was distributed at the Symposium. The book is published in English and Georgian and is funded within MUMEENA - Tempus project. It should be noted that a desire on implementation of the above-mentioned training course (according to TSMU experience) was expressed by the representatives of higher medical schools of Switzerland, the US, Japan, Italy, Germany.

The next day, Prof. Rima Beriashvili represented a report on "Faculty Development program in undergraduate medical education: Georgia Experience" and reviewed the results of training of trainers  in methodology of medical education. In parallel, at the session, Professor Anne-Marie Reid (Leeds University) and Professor Gaiane Simonia made a joint report on "Curriculum reform in Eastern Europe" which was also of great interest as well. The members of TSMU delegation outlined a plan for further co-operation with the MUMEENA partners - Professor Trudie Roberts President of the European Association for Medical Education and Professors: Richard Fuller and Godfrey Pell. They established business contacts with several companies producing simulations. Members of the delegation met with the Secretary General of the European Association for Medical Education Professor Ronald Harden.
