Pediatric Endocrinology Center was Opened at TSMU Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic

On 13th of November, 2015, Pediatric Endocrinology Center (Head, Associated Professor Marina Gordeladze) was opened at TSMU Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic, where except of provided stationary services for the children with diabetes will operate the school of diabetes, conduct treatment of children with other endocrine diseases. On November 14 is the World Diabetes Day, the day when Frederick Banting, who in 1921 discovered insulin, was born. For 90 years insulin application saved the life of millions of people.

The presentation of Pediatric Endocrinology Centre was held at TSMU Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic, which was attended by Professor ZurabVadachkoria Rector of TSMU, Professor Zurab Orjonikidze Chancellor, Associate Professor Zaza Bokhua Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development,  Ramaz Kurashvili President of Georgian Diabetes Federation, Elena Shelestova representative of to the European board of the International Diabetes Federation, doctors and scientists.  Guests were welcomed and addressed by Professor Lia Dzidziguri  General Director of TSMU Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic. An interesting presentation was given by Associate Professor Marina Gordeladze Head of Endocrinology Center. According to her the opening of the Center is an important fact and the clinic was waiting for this day for a long time. 440 thousand children in the world are estimated to have diagnosed diabetes, in Georgia 758 children, respectfully. This is a solid figure requiring more attention from the state and doctors. Ramaz Kurashvili President of Georgian Diabetes Federation congratulated  TSMU Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic on opening of the new Center. According to the new statistics, currently in the world 416 million people are affected with diabetes. Elena Shelestova representative of the European board of the International Diabetes Federation introduced the results of a new study to the audience according to which, by the year 2040, the number of diabetics worldwide will come up to 800 million. In this situation it is important to mobilize the medical community. Congratulatory speeches on the opening of the Center were made by: Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria Rector, Professor Zurab Orjonikidze Chancellor and Associate Professor Zaza Bokhua Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development.
