Visit of French politician and Doctor to Tbilisi State Medical University

   
   

On the 20th November of 2015, Mr. Bernard Kouchner a  famous French politician and doctor, public figure and statesman, former State Minister of France in the field of social security and employment, former Minister of health and humanitarian assistance under three different  government rules, former Minister of  Foreign and European Affairs, Chairman of Supervisory Board of “Global Alliance"; Jean-Elie Malkin, President of “Global Alliance";  and David Sergeenko Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia visited Tbilisi State Medical University.

“Bernard Kouchner worked his way up from medical activities in Gastroenterology and human health care to a global, revolutionary humanitarianism. The international organizations - "Doctors Without Borders" and "Doctors of the World", founded by him, became a symbol of a new, militant humanitarianism not only caring for population health during a crisis but defending its rights  without any geographical boundaries and political views”  said Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU.

Rector, Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria expressed his gratitude concerning to the visit of such honorary guests. The audience observed a minute of silence to honor those who died during the terrorist act perpetrated on November 13 in Paris. David Sergeenko, Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia emphasized a tremendous contribution made by Mr. Kouchner to Georgia and thanked the Tbilisi State Medical University for hosting.

Mr. Jean-Elie Malkin, President of "Global Alliance" stressed the importance of the visit of famous French politician and statesman and said that the case continues and is of great important for development of the country: "We observe great achievements in Health care system of Georgia and everything will be done to achieve even greater success"

Bernard Kouchner addressed to the audience, described how he founded the "Doctors Without Borders", mentioned  the biggest challenges of that time and noted that an equal access to health services still  remains the main problem in the world. This issue refers to Georgia as well; So everything must be done to develop a fair and high standard health care system in Georgia. Mr. Bernard Kouchner was asked some questions by  TSMU Students and the representatives of health care professionals. At the end of the meeting, Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria informed the audience that according to the decision of TSMU Academic Council (18/11/ 2015),  Bernard Kouchner was awarded the honorary doctorate. On behalf of TSMU, Mr. Bernard Kouchner was handed the Diploma of Honorary Doctorate, white coat with university symbols and souvenirs. The guests recorded their impressions and wishes  in “A Book of Impressions”.
