Professors Suleyman Kaynak and Mahmoud Ismail visited Tbilisi State Medical University

On December 4, 2015, Professor suleyman kaynak a member of the board of Turkish Association of Ophthalmologists, Professor of Dokuz Eylul University and Prof. Mahmoud Ismail, Egyptian Ophthalmological Society Board member, Professor of Al-Azhar University, Egypt visited Tbilisi State Medical University. Their visit was organized by Tbilisi State Medical University and the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development.This visit will maintain the improvement of education of students and residents in ophthalmology and implementation of new sub-specialties at Tbilisi State Medical University. According to the agreements with Professor Zaza Bokhua Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development the choice was made on two sub-specialties of opthalmology: therapeutic and surgical treatment of retinal and corneal diseases.

On December 4, 2015, Professors Suleyman Kaynak, Mahmoud Ismail and Merab Dvali conducted three operations, one of which was unprecedented (in Georgia), Professor Merab Dvali performed transplantation of deeper (back) layers of the cornea, which is considered as very progressive method in this direction. On December 5, 2015, invited specialists delivered lectures and introduced some current issues of ​​ophthalmology within the frames of International Conference of Ophthalmology (TIOC 2015) to Georgian Opthalmologists and residents. The guests met with the staff of the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Diseases of TSMU First University Clinic, students and residents and provided the consultations for the patients with serious eye pathologies. They delivered lectures for TSMU students that caused a great interest. According to the guests they are well-acquainted with  the latest inventions of Professor Merab Dvali, they think that this is very important for the world’s ophthalmology. They were glad to develop cooperation between the universities. The future plans were outlined as well.
