Austrian Guests at TSMU

On February 29, 2016, Prof. Stefan Deplorian Director of  TILAK (Tyrolean  Hospitals Union,  Austria), Dr. Walter Draxl and Dr. Waltraud Buchberger, Heads of AZW - West educational center of TILAK  and Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze, Chief Doctor of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology of Innsbruck University Clinic visited Tbilisi State Medical University.

The guests were welcomed by Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU, who thanked the Austrian colleagues and noted that friendship between the Tbilisi State Medical University and Innsbruck University Clinic began in 90s. It should be emphasized that Georgian-Austrian program (Bachelor -Nursing),  launched at Tbilisi State Medical University,  is the result of the effort made by Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze.

The audience was greeted by Prof. Stefan Deplorian, Director of  TILAK (Tyrolean  Hospitals Union,  Austria). He made a presentation on Tyrolean  Hospitals and spoke about similarities of Austria and Georgia.

Dr. Walter Draxl and Dr. Waltraud Buchberger introduced the audience to Austrian health care system and features of nursing education. At the meeting they also discussed the involvement of TSMU students in the exchange programs, their training and employment opportunities in Austria. Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze, Chief Doctor of Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology of Innsbruck University Clinic, delivered lecture on “Radiotherapy - general overview”  for TSMU students and residents at TSMU First University Clinic. Within the visit  the guests met with: TSMU Administration and  Heads of Educational Programs. The sides discussed prospects of mutual cooperation and training of nurses. Foreign guests also visited the TSMU First University Clinic, Givi Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic, TSMU Center of Clinical Skills and Library. They attended practical lessons of nursing school students at the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology .
