Prof. Jennifer Goedken, Director of Emory University Clerkship Program at TSMU

Professor of Emory University and Director of Emory University School of Medicine Clerkship Program, Dr. Jennifer Goedken visited Tbilisi State Medical University. the aim of the visit was participation in the Clerkship Program  of Obstetrics and gynecology  of US MD program of Tbilisi State Medical University On the one hand,  but on the other hand, implementation and development of the clinical training for this program, in General. Prof. Goedken spent several days at TSMU clinical base - Chachava Clinic, where she with the Georgian colleague Dr. Nikoloz Kintraia, MD., PhD, Director of Clerkship Program for US MD program of Tbilisi State Medical University, attended the Clerkship process in Obstetrics and Gynecology, met with the students of US MD program, residents of TSMU and shared experiences. Prof. Goedken paid the visit to David Gagua clinic, one of the clinical bases of Tbilisi State Medical University.  Within the frames of the visit,  Prof. Jennifer Goedken and Eka Ekladze, Director of US MD Program TSMU reviewed the curriculum of the program, discussed about the improvement of the examination and  clinical training  systems and plans for the future. On the last day of the visit, Prof. Goedken, together with Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, TSMU Rector and Program Directors:  Professor Rima Beriashvili, TSMU Vice Rector and Archil Undilashvili  met with Clerkship Program Directors  and the academic personnel involved in the clinical training process. TSMU Professors: Irma Chokhonelidze, Gia Tomadze, Givi Javashvili, Eka Chkonia, Nikoloz KIntraia, Nino Tevzadze and the lecturers invited to the program: Raisa Chiorni, Sophio Tamazashvili and Tamar Kasradze together with their American colleague discussed the experiences gained from practical work and planned the future activities.

Prof.  Jennifer Goedken: “Last year I had the honor to attend the Fourth White Coat Ceremony of US MD Program at Tbilisi State Medical University. That's when I met my Georgian colleague, gynecologist Nikoloz Kintraia.  In June, Nikoloz Kintraia and his assistant, Sophie Tamazashvili, visited Emory University School of Medicine, where they were acquainted with the American Clerkship Curriculum, clinical training program and evaluation process. I was very happy when I was invited  to Georgia to get acquainted with the first rotation of the American model of Clerkship. During my one-week stay in Tbilisi, I had an opportunity to meet with the Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, program directors, students and residents of Tbilisi State Medical University.  also met Dr. David Gagua, and I saw his new and modern clinic, one of the clinical bases of the US MD program of Tbilisi State Medical UniversityMeeting with the students of US MD Program of TSMU  was very specialp, as they belong to the first generation of the new study program. At the end of the visit, I met with the Directors of Clerkship program and shared my vision and experience.  At the meeting  we discussed the experiences gained from individual challenges and practical work during the study process ".

It is the fourth time Prof.  Jennifer Goedken, Director of Emory University Clerkship Program (USA, Atlanta), visited Georgia.  She is going to visit Tbilisi State Medical University in the future as well to improve and develop clinical training programs.
