On December 8, 2017, the 39^th  Scientific-Practical Conference dedicated to the 100^th  Anniversary  of Professor Levan (Leo) Avaliani was held at Tbilisi State Medical University. The Conference was attended by colleagues, friends and family members of Prof. Levan Avaliani. They recalled Professor's contribution toward the development of medical field, especially pediatrics. Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of the Tbilisi State Medical University, made a report where presented biographical data of Prof. Levan Avaliani  and spoke about his productive activitiesand contribution made for development of Tbilisi State Medical University. The Rector noted that Professor Levan Avaliani was a good doctor, teacher and administrator who left the greatest professional mark for his future colleagues. Rector expressed his thankfulness to the organizers of the event, the audience and family members. The Professor’s family members were given the "Certificates of Appreciation" by the conference organizers. It should be emphasized that in 1967 by the efforts of Leo Avaliani, the course of children's surgery headed by him for 20 years on a voluntary basis was established at Tbilisi State Institute of Continuous Professional Development. On his initiative, a children surgical section / children surgery school was established within the Georgian surgical society, the structure of which is still maintained and taught at Tbilisi State Medical University as well as other medical institutions. The event was divided into 4 sections. At the conference there were presented achievements, innovations and topical issues in pediatrics.
