On December 23, 2021 Tbilisi State Medical University was visited by the Head of Science and Technology Department at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Zaza Maruashvili and National Coordinator, Horizon Europe, TSMU Associate Professor Department of Medical Pharmacology, Maia Okujava. The meeting was attended by the TSMU Rector Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, TSMU Vice-Rectors Professors Khatuna Todadze and Sophio Bakhtadze, Head of Master’s and PhD Studies, Professor Nino Vepkhvadze and Head of Rector’s Office, Irina Kapetivadze.
Head of Science and Technology Department at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Zaza Maruashvili noted “Horizon Europe is the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation with a budget over 95 .5 billion euros. The duration of the programme is 7 years, 2021-2027. Our aim is to be actively involved in the competition. The competition rate across Europe is high. For Georgia it is extremely necessary to be involved in a drafting process of Horizon Europe proposals and research consortia. Horizon Europe offices are planned to be established at various Georgian Higher Education Institutions in order to promote dissemination of information at universities and support scientific group activities. One of the Horizon Europe offices is planned to be established at TSMU. The office will be responsible for health related issues and research across the country”.
TSMU Rector Professor Zurab Vadachkoria noted, establishing one of the Horizon Europe offices at Tbilisi State Medical University is challenging and the university will immediately begin to form the new division at the institution.
