From July 1, 2022, under the bilateral agreement between Tbilisi State Medical University and Medical University of Innsbruck, Michaela Fuchs and Oliver Elias Fuchs, students of the Medical University of Innsbruck, are undergoing an internship at the Department of Surgery of Tbilisi State Medical University, under the supervision of Professor Gia Tomadze,M.D.,Ph.D.
On July 21, Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze, Honorary Doctor of TSMU, Senior Doctor at Radiation Therapy and Radiooncology Center of the Medical University of Innsbruck, who made a great contribution to the development of cooperation between Tbilisi State Medical University and Medical University of Innsbruck, visited the TSMU Department of Surgery. The Honorary guest met the students of the Medical University of Innsbruck and received detailed information about the course of their internship.
"The exchange program between Tbilisi State Medical University and Medical University of Innsbruck has been functioning for five years. The program was named after Professor Manana Kutelia, as she was the initiator and supporter of establishing agreement between two medical universities. Under the exchange program, not only Georgian students come to Austria, but also Austrian students undergo clinical internship in the university clinics of Tbilisi State Medical University. The exchange program also implies exchanging doctors, joint research projects, medical activities in Austria as a visiting doctor. It should be emphasized that the TSMU departments, professors have received very good feedback from Austrian students. Austrian students come back to Austria with the best impressions sharing experience they got in Georgia with their colleagues, and express desire to undergo their internship at the Tbilisi State Medical University over again, some of them expressed willing to continue their studies in Georgia. Let me extend the sincere appreciation and deepest gratitude to my Georgian colleagues for their generous support and sharing experience with international students. I am more than sure that this is one of the best ways for the development of Georgian medicine, as Europe is our home," said Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze, Honorary Doctor of TSMU.
Michaela Fuchs and Oliver Elias Fuchs, will complete their internship at the Department of Surgery on August 11, 2022, and from August 11 to August 31, they will continue their clinical training at the Department of General Surgery of the TSMU First University Clinic TSSU.
