On May 16, 2024 a blood donation was organized at Tbilisi
State Medical University, initiated by the US MD program. TSMU students,
residents, academic and administrative staff participated in the event.
The American MD program students organized an informational
campaign about the importance of blood donation. The students also assisted
donors and blood banks in diverse medical procedures.
Blood was donated by representatives of various embassies in Georgia, TSMU students, professors and administrative staff. Among the voluntary donors were: Professor Irakli Natroshvili, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Mr. Aleksandre Buachidze, Chancellor of TSMU, Professor Archil Undilashvili, Head of the American MD program, Alan S. Purcell, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Georgia, Rebecca Sorge US Embassy Medical Attaché, Nicholas Cendrowicz Head of Cooperation at the EU delegation to Georgia, Clare Allbless, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Georgia and Col. Matthew Scherer, Director of the U.S. Army Medical Research Directorate-Georgia.
The event was supported by National
Center for Disease Control and Public Health, Embassies of the USA, Austria,
UK, Germany, Netherlands and EU delegation to Georgia and three operating blood
banks: The Institute of Hematology and Transfusiology, the Blood Transfusion
City Station, and Natalia Kvantaliani Central Blood Bank.
