Events dedicated to the Young Scientists’ Week at TSMU

On June 17, 2024 within the framework of Young Scientists’ Week - “Young Scientists for a Better Future of the Planet “, initiated by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Tbilisi State Medical University Scientific Research Skills Center and Student Scientific Research Club “Endeavor” organized events for students and pupils. 

Professor Ramaz Shengelia delivered a lecture on "Modern and Paleo-Population Genetic Research: A New Stage in the Complex Development of Humanities and Natural Sciences." Professor Shengelia discussed the population genetics of Georgia, a study that has been ongoing since 2012. He highlighted that the research aims to genetically study, evaluate, and correlate local archaeological paleo pathological biomass with historical data on ethnogenesis, migrations, and both human and natural disasters. After the lecture the students had an excursion in the Museum of History of Georgian Medicine and Museum of Life Sciences.

A conference "Behavioral and Substance Dependence: Medical and Social Issues' ' was organized as the final part of the week. The conference was opened by Professor Sophia Bakhtadze, Vice Rector of TSMU. within the framework of Young Scientists’ Week Professor Sophia Bakhtadze Vice Rector of TSMU and Head of the Department of Pediatric Neurology, Professor Khatuna Todadze, Head of Quality Assurance Service and the Department of Narcology, Associate Professor Luiza Gbunia, Head of Scientific Research Skills Center and Professor Levan Ratiani, Director of the TSMU First University Clinic delivered public lectures. The second part of the conference was dedicated to the students’ presentations. The students were awarded with the certificates.
