TSMU Delegation at AMEE Conference

On August 24-29, 2024 Tbilisi State Medical University representatives: Professor Gaiane Simonia, Head of the Academic Development and Strategic Planning Department, Salome Voronovi, Deputy Head of the Academic Development and Strategic Planning Department, Professor Rima Beriashvili, Head of the Department of Pathology Anatomy, Professor Irma Manjavidze, Head of the Clinical skills and Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, Associate Professor Eka Ekaladze, Director of US MD Program and Associate Professor Nino Tevzadze, Deputy Director of US MD Program participated in the International Association for Medical Education (AMEE) Conference Basel (Switzerland). 

Members of the TSMU delegation participated in various plenary sessions, workshops and sessions during the conference. Representatives of TSMU were actively engaged in the conference, presenting various reports.

In addition, during the conference, the delegation members had interesting meetings with Professor Shuba Raman, current President of AMEE and the future designated presidents, including AMEE's Executive Director, Anne Lloyd; President of the World Federation for Medical Education, Ricardo Leon Borghese; Professor Ronald Harden, Professor Olle ten Cate, Professor David Taylor, Professor Ken Masters, and representatives of NBME and AMBOSS.

During their visit to Switzerland, Professor Gaiane Simonia and Salome Voronovi were invited to the University of Basel, where they held a meeting with Professor Frank Zimmerman, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. The meeting focused on discussing clinical teaching and assessment methods in medical education. Plans for future collaboration between the universities in this area were also outlined.

Salome Voronovi, the co-head of the AMEE center in Georgia, was a member of the program development committee for this year's conference. She was also invited to serve as a moderator for the thematic session on academic development. Noteworthy, 4,041 representatives from 108 countries participated in the conference this year.
