The choice of Tbilisi State Medical University aligns with the values of liberty and the European path of development, emphasizing an unwavering commitment to the respect for human rights and freedoms. The peaceful expression of one’s thoughts and opinions is a fundamental pillar of democracy. Thus, no one has the right to violate it. A perpetrator of violence is inevitably destined to fail, while those who encourage aggression or violence bear responsibility as well.
As medical professionals, we dedicate ourselves to the most precious aspects of human existence: life, well-being and freedom. Therefore, any action that compromises human health, will, honor, or dignity regardless of the purpose or form are, have always been, and will remain unacceptable to us.
TSMU unequivocally opposes all forms of violence and the disproportionate use of force, whether by demonstrators or law enforcement agencies. TSMU students and alumni are dedicated to their professional responsibilities: our colleagues and future colleagues utilize the knowledge and practical skills acquired at the university to provide first aid to those injured during protests.
At TSMU, the foremost priority is our students and their academic interests. Freedom of expression is one of the most fundamental human rights. While the academic process continues uninterrupted, TSMU remains dedicated to creating a flexible learning environment tailored to the individual academic needs of each student. This includes organizing supplementary classes to compensate for any missed sessions. Furthermore, TSMU firmly rejects any form of discrimination against students or staff based on political beliefs.
"With Tradition to the Future" is not only the motto of TSMU but also a formula for development. Our traditions are European, and we envision ourselves as an honorable member of a strong European family in the future. European integration is the only path to strengthening the country’s sovereignty and advancing education, healthcare and other public goods. This is our paramount national interest, reinforced by the Constitution of Georgia.
