On February 14, 2025, Tbilisi State Medical University was visited by David Prentice, the Senior Higher Education Consultant within Times Higher Education (THE) Consultancy Department. The guest was welcomed by Professor Irakli Natriashvili Rector of TSMU, Professor Rima Beriashvili, Head of the Faculty Development and Strategic Planning Department, Salome Voronovi, Deputy Head of the Faculty Development and Strategic Planning Department and Associate Professor Irina Kapetivadze, Head of the Rector's Office.
The parties explored prospects for the development of transnational education between TSMU and higher education institutions in the UK, including opportunities for establishing joint educational programs.
Times Higher Education (THE) is a highly influential British organization specializing in higher education issues. THE is widely recognized for its annual rankings, which evaluates universities against teaching quality, research impact, academic influence, citations and other key performance indicators.
The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia actively collaborates with Times Higher Education and the British Council to support the modernization of educational programs at Georgian universities and the enhancement of its academic environment. As part of this cooperation, a Georgian-British Transnational Education Roadmap document is being developed, outlining specific steps to strengthen academic partnerships between universities in Georgia and the United Kingdom.
Tbilisi State Medical University is already engaged in Times Higher Education (THE) impact ranking. According to the 2024 THE Impact Rankings, TSMU is ranked among the top 401-600 universities against SDG3 - Good Health and Well-being.
