In 2025, Georgia officially joined the European Clinical Research Alliance for Infectious Diseases (Ecraid). A scientific meeting was held on March 10-12 in Cascais, Portugal.
The primary objective of the Ecraid scientific meeting was to enhance the engagement of experts in the field and strengthen research collaboration. Accordingly, the meeting focused on the feasibility of conducting a Phase III clinical trial for Clostridium difficile infection.
The event was attended by Professor Tamar Didbaridze, Head of the Department of Microbiology of Tbilisi State Medical University and Assistant Professor Elene Pachkoria, Department of Infectious Diseases of TSMU. As a new member of the alliance, Dr. Pachkoria introduced the research capacities of TSMU the First University Clinic and expressed readiness to participate in the network’s priority research projects related to infectious diseases.
The Phase III clinical trial on Clostridium difficile infection is expected to contribute to the development of the following scientific networks:
• Laboratory Network – Advancing laboratory research on infectious diseases;
• Clinical Network – Addressing challenges related to infectious diseases in hospital settings;
• PK/PD Network – Enhancing pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics research for optimized therapy;
• Epidemiological Network – Investigating the causes and consequences of infectious disease spread to improve prevention and control strategies;
• Statistical Network – Providing advanced methodological support for data analysis and improving research outcomes.
