Tbilisi State Medical University Hosted Coordinators of the DAAD-SDG International Project

Tbilisi State Medical University hosted the coordinators of the DAAD-SDG-funded international partnership project entitled “Preparing Georgian Students of Medicine and Biology for Scientific Careers in Life Sciences and Medicine.” The visit took place within the framework of the ongoing collaboration supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD-SDG).

As part of the project activities, TSMU welcomed Professor Ulrich Martin of Hannover Medical School and Dr. Gabriele “Gabi” Froriep, Head of Doctoral Programs, who serve as project coordinators.

During the two-day visit (25–26 February), Professor Martin delivered two lectures on methods in molecular biology. The lectures addressed traditional, contemporary, and emerging approaches to recombinant DNA technologies, highlighting their significance for modern biomedical research.

The primary audience consisted of TSMU Faculty of Medicine students who completed the elective course “Preparation for a Scientific Career” in 2025 and are currently preparing for the 2026 LISA Summer Academy traineeship at Hannover Medical School. The planned internship will enable participants to study and practically master relevant research methodologies, thereby supporting the implementation of individual research projects prior to the completion of their educational program at TSMU.

The lectures were also attended by representatives of the University’s Departments of Immunology, Molecular and Medical Genetics, as well as interested students and researchers.

The DAAD-SDG international project “Preparing Georgian Students of Medicine and Biology for Scientific Careers in Life Sciences and Medicine” has been implemented in partnership with Tbilisi State Medical University since January 2024.
