TSMU Associate Professor Natia Pkhaladze Participated in an ESCMID International Educational Course

From June 9 to 13, 2026 Associate Professor Natia Pkhaladze, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tbilisi State Medical University visited Lund, Sweden within the framework of a grant-funded initiative of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID). Associate Professor Natia Pkhaladze participated in the international educational course “Two Lives at Risk: Navigating Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy.”

The course brought together leading experts and professors in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology, infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, and pediatrics from various European countries. This multidisciplinary international forum provided participants with an opportunity to exchange contemporary scientific knowledge, clinical expertise, and best practices related to the management of infectious diseases during pregnancy.

Associate Professor Natia Pkhaladze delivered a presentation “Prognostic Value of IL-6 in Infectious Stillbirth,” highlighting the findings of a research study conducted at the First University Clinic of Tbilisi State Medical University. The presentation was followed up by discussions with international colleagues, focusing on opportunities for future scientific collaboration, joint research projects, and the development of educational initiatives. 

The knowledge and experience gained through participation in the course, together with the newly established international connections, will contribute to the further enhancement of the educational process at Tbilisi State Medical University, the expansion of international cooperation, and the advancement of evidence-based clinical practice at the University Clinic.
