Meeting with the Representatives of National Center for Disease Control and Public Health

On February 2, 2018, the representatives of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health visited Tbilisi State Medical University. They discussed the epidemic situation (epid-situation) related to measles in Georgia. The representatives of the Center introduced the national action plan for the elimination of measles to the University staff and called on the involvement in organization of preventive and control measures to be carried out in all cases of measles to prevent its further spread. The meeting was attended by Chancellor of Tbilisi State Medical University, Vice-Rectors, the representatives of Faculties and Students’ Self-Government. According to Prof. Zurab Orjonikidze Chancellor of Tbilisi State Medical University, TSMU, with its university clinics and resources is ready to be involved in activities to prevent measles, contribute raising public awareness about the critical importance of immunization and call for getting vaccination. Please be aware that measles is one of the most contagious diseases - over 90% of individuals who have no immunity are getting infected after contact with the virus. The measles virus is transmitted through the airways. Traditionally, measles is considered as a child’s disease, but people of any age can be infected if they do not have post-infection immunity - vaccination is necessary!
