Tbilisi State Medical University doctoral student, Ekaterine Mosidze was at the University of Salerno (Italy)

A doctoral student of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology of Tbilisi State Medical University, Ekaterine Mosidze conducted part of her doctoral research at the University of Salerno (Italy) within the framework of Erasmus+ exchange program.

Within the framework of the doctoral research, the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles applying local lemon extract was carried out in the laboratory of the university. The outcomes of the research were carefully studied. Moreover, the biological activities, including cytotoxicity, antibacterial and antiviral activities were thoroughly evaluated.

"In vivo experiments revealed the silver nanoparticles containing an antiviral effect against the new coronavirus (Sars-cov-2), herpes simplex virus (HSV-1), poliovirus. Simultaneously, the nanoparticles make no effect on the normal human microbiome and are safe” said Ekaterine Mosidze.

Within the framework of the exchange program, the doctoral student was given the opportunity to study innovative research methods and had experience in vivo experimental research.

“I want to express my gratitude to Tbilisi State Medical University for a brilliant opportunity,” said the doctoral student.
