Tbilisi State Medical University is involved in the ERASMUS+ Project – Rising Research Capacity of Georgian HEIs through Developing R&D Units

Since 2019 Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) has been participating in the European Union ERASMUS+ programme “Rising Research Capacity of Georgian HEIs through Developing R&D Units“. The coordinator of the project is Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Twelve Georgian and three European universities are engaged to implement the project.

Project Manager, Associate Professor Nona Janikashvili, Vice Rector Professor Sophia Bakhtadze, ERASMUS+ Coordinator Nino Kandelaki, Professor Rima Beriashvili, Chief Specialist of the Financial Department Vakhtang Beroshvili, Assistant-Professor Tea Kochoradze-Margishvili and Network Administrator Akaki Karsanidze are involved in administration and implementation of the HERD project and the research management platform in TSMU.

In the framework of the HERD project, the unified platform has been developed which aims to promote the administration of research in Georgian HEIs and, therefore, to improve the quality of research and establish institutional partnership on national and international levels. Implementation of the unified platform is supported by the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science.

Georgian researchers are being registered in the research management database to disseminate their research and creative activities including clinical work. Accordingly, the information about ongoing projects, human resources and infrastructure of multiple Georgian HEIs is gathered within the joint platform. This promotes a rational planning, implementation and evaluation of research projects at the R&D units in Georgia. In addition, it supports to establish priorities in research, needs assessment and strategic development plans. Up to date, 159 academic and scientific personnel are already registered in the platform.

In addition to the database, a portal is also created in the framework of HERD project, which represents an open instrument to promote the visibility of Georgian researchers and their projects not only in Georgia, but also worldwide and to extend the mechanisms of internationalization. The portal also supports students and young scientists to enroll in ongoing projects.

The platform implemented within the framework of HERD project is the first unified system in Georgia for research management and promotion.

For registration at the portal, please contact Nona Janikashvili, the Chief Specialist of the TSMU Department of Research Coordination, Master and PhD Programmes: email: n.janikashvili@tsmu.edu.
