Solemn Events Dedicated to the Beginning of the New 2023/2024 Academic Year

Solemn event dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year was opened by the national anthem of Georgia. The event was attended by the TSMU administration, representatives of legislative and executive authorities of the Georgian Government and invited professors from the leading universities of Germany and Austria. Professor Wolfgang Fleischhacker, President of the Medical University of Innsbruck (Austria), Professor Christine Bandtlow, Executive Vice President for Research and International Relations of the  Medical University of Innsbruck (Austria), Professor Joachim Freihorst, Ulm University Clinic (Germany), Dr. Aza Mantashashvili Director of Brain Wellness Center (New York, Manhattan) and Head of the Department of Neuropsychotherapy and Neurofeedback congratulated the students and academic staff of TSMU on the beginning of a new 2023 - 2024 academic year.

Archil Talakvadze, Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament, Nodar Papukashvili, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Tamar Gabunia, First Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Vladimir Kakhadze, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Health Care and Social Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Baia Kvitsiani the Deputy Chairperson of the Education and Science Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Davit Lominashvili Head of Legal Issues Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevich, Executive Director of International Education Center in Georgia, Ana Kakabadze, member of the Tbilisi City Assembly, Gogi Chikovani, Head of the Kindergartens Management Agency, Professor Arsen Gvenetadze, Honorary Doctor of TSMU, Lado Gabechava, President of Students' Self-Government of TSMU and Slaggia Dugirala, a ninth-semester student of US MD Program of TSMU congratulated the students and professors on the beginning of the new academic year. 

Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU opened the solemn ceremony and congratulated the first semester students on the beginning of the academic year. 

“According to the standards of the accreditation council of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement in compliance with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) standards and procedures, Tbilisi State Medical University gained international accreditation to all four medical educational programs in 2021. Undoubtable, it is a great achievement for the medical university. As from 2024 only the diploma issued by a medical school which received international accreditation will be recognized in the Euro-Atlantic space. This recognition is a springboard for your professional development. As your potential has even expanded and your field of career achievements will not be limited throughout the world. I am convinced you will become field professionals. Despite the unprecedentedly high minimum competence threshold for admission to Tbilisi State Medical University, you were able to overcome it and become the students of TSMU. I am sure you will become famous doctors, dentists, pharmacists, healthcare managers, rehabilitation specialists, nurses and I will be extremely proud when I hear your name as you were the students of Tbilisi State Medical University and I was honored to be your rector. Finally, I want to congratulate you on the beginning of a new academic year and wish you all good luck” said Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU.

TSMU Students’ Self-Government President Lado Gabechava awarded top ten first semester students according to the results of National Assessment and Examinations Center with memorable gifts. Nia Shamatava, the best performing student was awarded with a laptop by Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU. A surprise recorded by the TSMU Public Relations Department was especially emotional and memorable for Nia Shamatava. Family members and the school director congratulated Nia on her success and wished for future professional development. 

The event was ended by the Tbilisi State Medical University anthem. The first semester students were met by Professor Rusudan Rukhadze, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Nana Kipiani, Dean of Faculty of Stomatology, Assoc. Prof. Tamar Chikviladze, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Assoc. Prof. Marina Tsimakuridze, Dean of Public Health Faculty, Prof. Lela Maskhulia, Dean of Faculty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Medea Jgharkava, Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery Bachelor's Programmes of TSMU

TSMU folk song and dance ensemble performed Georgian songs at the concert dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year.
