Solemn Events Dedicated to the Beginning of the New 2022/2023 Academic Year

September 19 was a special day for the students and academic and administrative staff of Tbilisi State Medical University. A new academic year has begun! Solemn event dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year was opened by the national anthem of Georgia. TSMU administration, representatives of legislative and executive authorities of the Georgian Government and invited professors from the leading Universities of Ukraine, the USA and Great Britain congratulated on the beginning of the new academic year to TSMU first semester students.

According to the results of the National Assessment and Examinations Center (NAEC) the most motivated and high-performing students choose to study at Tbilisi State Medical University. Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, TSMU Rector congratulated the students and especially the freshman students on the beginning of the new 2022-2023 academic year. The rector noted, traditionally TSMU is a leading higher medical education institution in Georgia where accredited one-step bachelor’s, master’s and PhD educational programs are implemented and developed. “We are proud of our achievements: according to the quality assurance standards recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME), the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement awarded MD Georgian- Russian- and English - instructed and USMD educational programs of Tbilisi State Medical University with international accreditation. Based on the WFME and ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) decision, internationally accredited medical education programs will be recognized in the Euro Atlantic area from 2024” Professor Zurab Vadachkoria highlighted. 

University success allows TSMU students to become competitive field professionals locally and internationally. “You will become doctors, dentists, pharmacists, healthcare managers, rehabilitation specialists and nurses. Some years later when I hear your names I will be proud that you studied at Tbilisi State Medical University, and I was honored to be your rector. I want to congratulate you on beginning a new academic year and wish you success!” – said the Rector of TSMU. 

TSMU students and professors were congratulated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia Mikheil Chkhenkeli (video), Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia Nunu Mitskevichi, Professor Nikoloz Gongadze, Head of the TSMU Department of Pharmacology, Honorary Doctor of Tbilisi State Medical University, Regent of District 15 International College of Dentists and Head of Dental Clinic and Studio “Apollonia” Dr. Serhiy Radlinsky, Professor Gordon Chuchvord, assistant-Dean, Professor of Microbiology and Immunology Department, Emory University School of Medicine (USA), Professor Mary Jo Lechowicz, Professor of Hematology and Oncology Department, Emory University School of Medicine (USA), Professor June Keeling, Keele University (UK), TSMU Professor Archil Undilashvili Director of Educational Programs at Emory School of Medicine

TSMU opening ceremony was visited by Nino Tsereteli, Head of the Higher Education Development Department of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, TSMU Assistant Professor Kakha Abuladze Director of Tbilisi Youth Center Unions, Vera Radlinska Head of the Study-Practice Center of Dental Clinic and Studio “Apollonia”, Keele University Professors Ivan McGlenn and Tom Sheppard and TSMU Professor and Head of USMD Program Archil Undilashvili. 

TSMU Students’ Self-Government President Lado Gabechava awarded top ten first semester students according to the results of National Assessment and Examinations Center with memorable gifts. Nika Kakhniashvili, the best performing student was awarded with a laptop by Professor Zurab Vadachkoria Rector of TSMU. A surprise recorded by the TSMU Public Relations Department was especially emotional and memorable for Nika Kakhniashvili. Teachers and family members congratulated Nika on his success and wished for future professional development. 

The event was ended by the Tbilisi State Medical University anthem. The first semester students were met by international professors and Professor Rusudan Rukhadze, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Nana Kipiani, Dean of Faculty of Stomatology, Assoc. Prof. Tamar Chikviladze, Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Assoc. Prof. Marina Tsimakuridze, Dean of Public Health Faculty, Prof. Lela Maskhulia, Dean of Faculty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Medea Jgharkava, Coordinator of TSMU Professional Educational Programs.

TSMU folk song and dance ensembles performed Georgian songs at the concert dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year.
