თბილისის სახელმწიფო სამედიცინო უნივერსიტეტში დიაბეტის ცნობიერების ამაღლების საერთაშორისო დღე აღინიშნა

World Diabetes Day at Tbilisi State Medical University

On November 11, 2022 an event dedicated to the World Diabetes Day was organized at Tbilisi State Medical University by TSMU Department of Endocrinology and G. Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic.

The event was attended by David Sergeenko Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament, Zaza Lominadze the Chairman of the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee, Vladimir Kakhadze the First Deputy Chair of the Health Care and Social Issues Committee, Shermadin Sharia Head of the Temporary Parliament Commission on Restoration of Territorial Integrity and De-occupation, representatives from the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. The guests were met by Professor Sophia Bakhtadze Vice Rector of TSMU, Professor Marine Gordeladze Head of the Department of Endocrinology and MD Ekaterina Patsatsia, Head of the Pediatric Endocrinology Center of the G. Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic.

The guests talked about the importance of raising society awareness about diabetes. Tbilisi State Medical University supports people suffering from diabetes and annually celebrates World Diabetes Day with them.  Children and adults suffering from diabetes and their parents were also invited to the meeting. Within the framework of the event, Endocrinologist Ana Chokhonelidze delivered a public lecture "Modern Aspects of Treatment and Prevention of Diabetes” for the TSMU students. 

World diabetes day is celebrated every year on 14th November. The reason behind celebrating the day on this date is because of the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, co-discoverer of insulin in 1922.
