Tbilisi State Medical University is the winner of Universiade of Georgia 2022

From October 20 to November 20, 2022 Universiade of Georgia 2022 was organized by the University Sports Federation of Georgia and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia. More than 5000 students from 34 partner higher education institutions of Georgia participated in the competition. Competitions were held in 13 sport activities. 

Tbilisi State Medical University is the winner of Universiade 2022. TSMU students won different types of medals in the competition. 

List of individual achievements of TSMU students:

Salome Khutsurauli won the first place among the girls and Giorgi Kukhaleishvili - the second place among the boys at the chess competition.

First place in badminton -  Irine Kirkitadze (among girls) and Hari Shankar Duraisamy (among boys). The second place winner is Shari Ton Vincent (among girls). The third place winner is Sundar Vemula Murali (among boys).

Tornike Grigalashvili became champion in three sport activities (Georgian wrestling, sambo, judo - 73 kg weight category) and was awarded with three gold medals. 

In table tennis, Giorgi Lipartia was awarded with a gold medal and Nino Tsotskhalashvili - the silver medal. 

In team sports, TSMU table tennis and bowling teams won gold medals and a basketball team won a bronze medal. 

The awarding ceremony was organized at Tbilisi City Hall. The ceremony was attended by Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze, the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nunu Mitskevichi, the Chairman of the Tbilisi City Council Giorgi Tkemaladze, heads of higher educational institutions and representatives of student self-governments.

“It is our students’ victory. Some time ago I was proud of the fact that most of the TSMU students were able to overcome high entry barriers in order to study at TSMU. But today I am even prouder because the TSMU students are at the same time the best athletes. They understand the value of a healthy lifestyle”, said Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU.
