On August 27-31, 2022 AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe) organized an annual conference in Lyon (France). Tbilisi State Medical University, Faculty of Medicine students Elene Maisuradze, Veriko Revia and Nini Jgharkava are authors of the Project “First Steps in Medical Practice” which was announced as the winner project at the opening ceremony of the conference.  

“The Working Group of the Student Initiatives Grant is pleased to inform you that your project has been selected among more than 40 submissions, as the overall winner of the 2022 Student Initiatives Grant. The Working Group was unanimous in its decision that your team deserve this distinction based on your final report where we highlight the following aspects: 

• Your main goal and specific objectives were relevant;

• Your structure and plan were well thought out and presented;

• Your project reached a large number of students and can reach more in the future, therefore your impact in terms of the target group will be increased;

• Your final report was clearly written and gave an understandable overview of your work and progress” – was written in the letter the TSMU students received. 

The aim of the project was to promote improvements in medical education and the development of learning resources in collaboration with students. The project developed by the TSMU students envisaged the promotion of practical courses at the leading clinics of Tbilisi. A special web-platform was created which connected the student and the medical institution.

The project was launched in February, 2022 and was implemented in three basic stages:

I stage – workshops with the representatives of the clinics. They were informed about the web-platform;

II stage - integration of clinics with the web-page and signing a partnership memorandum with them;

III stage – creating a web platform.

“Our project is the Tbilisi State Medical University Faculty of Medicine students’ initiative, financially supported by AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe). Within the framework of the project we have created an online platform where medical students can select the clinic and department for their internship opportunities, register, upload their CV and cover letter. The best candidates will be selected and contacted by the clinics themselves. Our team hopes that the project will help the Faculty of Medicine students receive a better experience and take the first practical steps in their future profession” noted the TSMU Faculty of Medicine students. 

The TSMU students were invited to the AMEE conference where they made a presentation about the overall winner project.

AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe) hybrid conference was organized in Lyon and attended by 3,500 delegates (including 2,500 in person and 1,000 remotely).
