Students of Tbilisi State Medical University spent summer internship at European, US, Ukrainian and Turkey Clinics and international students from partner foreign universities visited TSMU within the framework of international exchange programs.
TSMU Medicine Faculty students spent summer internship at Landshut and Weilheim Clinics (Germany), under the supervision of Professors Lorian Lohe, Georgios Meimarakis, and Dr. Wolfgang Schneider. At Weilheim Clinic students were under the coordination of TSMU Honorary Professor Reynolds Lang and Doctors of the Clinic Marsel Ziegler, Mishel Sheirlinger, Peter Bauman and Bernhard Can.
TSMU students of Medicine and Stomatology Faculties had summer internship at Utrecht University (Netherlands) under the supervision of Prof. Ronald Bleys, TSMU Honorary Doctor and Head of Anatomy Department of the Utrecht University Medical Center, Assoc. Prof. Davit Topuria, TSMU Human Normal Anatomy Department and Assoc. Prof. Levan Benashvili, Deputy Head of the Department of Overseas Students Education.
TSMU students visited Poland for the summer internship program. Medicine Faculty students were at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences under the supervision of Professors Gregory Brebovich, Eva Novak-Markvich, Roman Jankovski and Marek Ruchala. Prof. Yaroslavl Volkoviak, Vice-Rector for Science and International Relations at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences, met the Georgian students and evaluated students’ international mobility program as one of the main opportunities for the students to gain professional experience. Within the framework of ERASMUS+ program TSMU students had internship at Medical University of Gdansk under the supervision of Dr. Magdalena Drozk, Dr. Pieter Skonieczny and Coordinator David Spichala and Medical University of Lublin under the coordination of Professors Michael Tomashevski, Mario Torros, Daniel Pietrzak and Andrei Madeiezik.
Twenty students of Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health and Management and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Faculties, led by Associate Professor Lali Khutsishvili, Head of Quality Assurance Department of TSMU Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Faculty spent summer internship at Kharkov Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (Ukraine). Prof. Igor Voronzhev, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Kharkov Postgraduate Medical Academy, thanked the Georgian students, hoping the cooperation would be more productive in the future. Prof. Alexandr Khvysiuk, Rector of Kharkov Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education highly appreciated the cooperation developed between TSMU and Kharkov Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and sent letter of appreciation to Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University for his contribution to the development of international relations between Georgia and Ukraine in the field of medical education.
TSMU Medicine Faculty students had summer internship at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), Samsun (Turkey) under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Omar Samushia, TSMU Neurology Department and at Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Clinic, Rize (Turkey) under the supervision of Nino Jankarashvili, Assistant at TSMU Department of Ophthalmology.
TSMU American MD Program students had three-week internship at Emory University (USA) in frames of educational project - “Summer/Winter in Emory”. The project gives opportunity to MD program students to get acquaintance with American Health System and Medical Education.
The aim of the internship is giving not only theoretical but mainly practical experience to TSMU students. The students were distributed in different departments and attended patients’ consultation or examination processes and assisted at surgery operations. TSMU students noted that the internship is a great opportunity for the development of their professional experience.
Tbilisi State Medical University hosted international students within the framework of ERASMUS+ and individual agreements. The students were from the University of Toronto (Canada), Harvard University and Wellesley College (USA), Kharkov National Medical University and Zaporizhian State Medical University (Ukraine), Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Medical University of Lublin and the University of Gdansk (Poland), the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targus Murres (Romania), The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany) and Medical University of Vienna (Austria). The international students had internship at the TSMU First University Clinic, A. Urushadze Dental Clinic and TSMU Clinical Bases (Department №1 Internal Diseases, Department of Pediatrics №1, Department of Surgery and №1 Surgery Department, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Interventional Radiology Department, Medical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department and Department of Surgical Stomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery).
The international students highly appreciated the summer internship at Georgian Clinics and professionalism of TSMU academic staff.
Georgian and international students were actively involved in the cultural events of those countries where they had summer internship.
