The Journal Club at the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics of Tbilisi State Medical University has completed the 3rd and opened the 4th season

The Journal Club at the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics of Tbilisi State Medical University has successfully completed the 3rd season of the project and continues to work in the framework of the 4th season. 

The Journal Club activities include regular meetings of students and lecturers to discuss the latest articles published in leading scientific journals in the fields of molecular and medical genetics, genomics and translational medicine. 

Within the framework of the 3rd season the students presented following topics:

Genetic Determinants of Sudden Unexpected Death in Pediatrics (Veriko Maghlaperidze, Megi Lartsuliani)

Trans-acting genetic variants causing multilocus imprinting disturbance (MLID): common mechanisms and consequences (Temur Kopadze, Giorgi Maisuradze)

Identical twins carry a persistent epigenetic signature of early genome programming (Nino Maisuradze, Nino Dilsiz)

Accelerated biological aging in COVID-19 patients (Zurab Darjania, Keta Kalandadze)

Positive selection and gene duplications in tumor suppressor genes reveal clues about how cetaceans resist cancer (Elene Melikidze, Ana Chabakauri)

An overview of the last 10 years of genetically engineered crop safety research (Nino Kapanadze, Giorgi Bregadze)

On March 31, Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics of Tbilisi State Medical University awarded the 3rd season participant students with certificates. The best authors were named: Elene Melikidze/Ana Chabakauri and Nino Kapanadze/Giorgi Bregadze. They were awarded with Face2Gene Dysmorphology books and books published by the Georgian Society of Medical Genetics and Epigenetics. 

The "Journal Club" project is coordinated by Prof. Tinatin Tkemaladze, the Head of the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics and a Doctoral student of TSMU and invited teacher Kakha Bregvadze.
