The University of Westminster hosted the 32nd Annual Event “Georgia Day”

On October 31, 2019 Professor Rema Gvamichava, Head of the TSMU Department of Oncology visited London (UK) University of Westminster. The University of Westminster hosted the 32nd Annual Event “Georgia Day” – “Georgia as a Hub of Education and Science” organized by the Embassy of Georgia and the University of Westminster. Representatives of the UK Foreign Office, Diplomatic Corps, twinned cities, professional associations, the Georgian Diaspora and academicians participated in the event.

The conference was opened by the founder and co-organizer of the event Dr. Tamara Dragadze and Andrew Linn, Head of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Westminster. Tamar Beruchashvili, Georgian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Paul Braymer, the Director of the International Department at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office opened the conference. Prof. Rema Gvamichava presented report about the achievements of Tbilisi State Medical University and goals and strategy of TSMU to become the Medical Education Regional Hub. Tamar Beruchashvili highlighted the importance of signed agreement on the “Strategic Partnership and Cooperation between Georgia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” on October 21, collaborative educational and scientific opportunities between the parties and internationalization perspectives of Georgian Education and Science. Paul Braymer talked about Georgia-UK strategic partnership and especially highlighted the cultural and academic partnership for the further development.

The participants marked the essential role of Tbilisi State Medical University in the development of Medical Education in the Region. The leadership of the University of Westminster expressed desire to collaborate with TSMU. Prof. Rema Gvamichava met the leading scientists of the University of Westminster. Prof. Ihab Tewfik, Human Nutrition, Life Sciences Department at the University of Westminster expressed desire to co-operate actively in scientific and pedagogical directions with Tbilisi State Medical University.
