“Early Childhood Development Academy” - an innovative project developed by TSMU in collaboration with Emory University


Tbilisi State Medical University “Early Childhood Development Academy” is an innovative project developed by TSMU in collaboration with Emory University. The aim of the project is to assist children and adolescents with different neurological, physical and development disorders and facilitate their integration in the society. Director of Educational Programs at Emory School of Medicine and TSMU Professor Archil Undilashvili noted: “the academy promotes the social integration of children with physical or neurological disabilities”. 

The academy applies an evidence-based, special educational programs. Group and individual behavioral therapists work with children with special needs. Head of the academy, Nino Okrosashvili said: “The academy provides outpatient and academic services. The outpatient service includes both diagnostic and therapeutic services. The therapy is divided into two parts: individual and group therapies. In both cases an individual case of a child is assessed independently. Individual educational and therapeutic programs are developed according to the child’s needs. Goal of our academic activities is to promote the development and improvement of those skills which are necessary for their daily activities. Besides, parents are free to leave their children in a safe and friendly environment for a certain part of a day and be sure that their children spend their time in academy with planned and interesting activities tailored to the needs of a child” said the director of the academy.

Why innovation?

Hitherto, the aforementioned services were available for children with typical development. 

The academy already works with the children with autism spectrum and diverse types of development disorders


Modern infrastructure

Tbilisi State Medical University “Early Childhood Development Academy” with the support of Emory University, implements and develops services in compliance with American and European standards. It means an adapted and safe environment and a qualified multidisciplinary team.

Director of Educational Programs at Emory School of Medicine and TSMU Professor Archil Undilashvili noted, the academy is an excellent base for the TSMU students to undergo internships and develop academic activities”.
