On October 27, 2023 within the framework of the ERASMUS+ Capacity Building Project SAFEMED + Tbilisi State Medical University was visited by Professor of General Pathology and Immunology and Head of the Department of Biomedical and Biotechnology Sciences of the University of Catania (Italy) Ferdinando Nicoletti and Associate Professor Katia Mangano, Department of Biomedical and Biotechnology Sciences of the University of Catania. The guests were hosted by Professor Zurab Vadachkoria Rector of TSMU, Professor Khatuna Todadze Vice Rector of TSMU, Assoc. Prof. Irina Kapetivadze Head of Rector’s Office, Professor Tinatin Chikovani Head of the Departments of Immunology and Education Management, Assessment and Students Registration of Tbilisi State Medical University and Nino Kandelaki ERASMUS+ Institutional Coordinator. 

Professor Ferdinando Nicoletti noted active collaboration with the Tbilisi State Medical University within the framework of ERASMUS+ Capacity Building Project SAFEMED + was essential for the University of Catania. The delegation members expressed their desire for further cooperation activities. As a consequence, the Italian side presented a mutual cooperation agreement for the upcoming five years. Professor Ferdinando Nicoletti highlighted collaboration with Professor Tinatin Chikovani was especially beneficial for the University of Catania. 

Professor Ferdinando Nicoletti is the author of various projects in partnership with Tbilisi State Medical University. On July 26, 2023 he was awarded the certificate of TSMU Honorary Doctor by Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU. He was grateful for the title and expressed his desire to expand cooperation activities with TSMU. 

The guests visited the Museum of Life Sciences, Research Center of Human Genome and Epigenome and Clinical Skills and Multidisciplinary Simulation Center.
