Tbilisi State Medical University was visited by Keele University Professors from the UK

On May 1-5 2023 Tbilisi State MedicalUniversity was visited by a delegation from the University ofKeele (UK) within the framework of ERASMUS+. TSMU was visited by Professor Paul Horrocks, Professor ofMolecular Parasitology, Director of Medical Sciences, University Strategic Leadfor Postgraduate Research Programmes, Chair of Research Degrees Committee andChair of University Discipline Committee, Dr. Sarah Aynsley SeniorLecturer (Education and Scholarship) in Bioscience Keele University School ofMedicine, Dr. Paul Clews AnatomyManager, Keele University School of Medicine, Professor June Keeling Women’sHealth, School of Nursing and Midwifery at Keele University, Dr. David Jefferson, Lecturer inNursing Studies (mental health), Disability Liaison Officer, School of Nursingand Midwifery at Keele University, Dr. Susan Jackson, Lecturer in Nursing and Academic Lead forStudy Abroad, Dr. Catherine Greene, Lecturer in AdultNursing, Dr. Emily Salt, Professional LeadAdult Nursing and Safeguarding Lead, Dr. Jane Baggley Lecturer in Learning DisabilityNursing and Charlotte Harper, Invited Lecturer,School of Nursing and Midwifery at Keele University. 

The delegation of Keele Universityconducted training Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for the TSMU academic staff.Within the framework of the training the lecturers presented a practical classwith the students of US MD program students. The guests met TSMU faculty deans,academic staff and director of the US MD program. The academic staff of TSMUwas especially interested in the medicine programme of Keele University as PBLis integrated in the programme. Professor Paul Horrocks, Sarah Aynsley and theTSMU academic staff discussed the similarities and differences between planningand implementing PBL sessions at Keele University and Tbilisi State MedicalUniversity. Further cooperation activities were also agreed.

On May 1, Professor Paul Horrocks presentedstudy programmes of Keele University to the students of Bachelor's DegreePrograms for Nursing and Midwifery and administration of TSMU.Professors of School of Nursing and Midwifery at Keele University spoke aboutnursing education and nursing and midwifery associations in the UK. 

On May 2, the members of the delegationvisited the TSMU Clinical Skills and Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, TSMU the FirstUniversity ClinicG.Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic andthe Ken Walker UniversityClinic for Medical Rehabilitation.

On May3, the cultural center of TSMU organized a concert in the Theater Hall of TSMUfor the British guests.

After the visit, Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University received a letter of gratitude from Professor June Keeling.
