Professor Rema Gvamichava’s visit to Romania

On October 11-14, 2023 Professor Rema Gvamichava, Head of the Department of Oncology of TSMU visited Cluj-Napoca (Romania). The goal of the visit was to experience the Oncology Institute and Cancer Screening Center activities and plan joint projects.

“Within the framework of the visit I met Prof. Catalin Vlad, Director of the Cluj-Napoca Oncology Institute and Prof. Katriku Cadarius, member of the Parliament of Romania Health Committee. During the visit I was introduced to essential aspects of clinical and scientific work of the Oncology Institute. The Romanian hosts expressed their interest to sign a memorandum of partnership with Tbilisi State Medical University. Georgian-Romanian joint conference on oncology issues in 2024 and short-term internships for residents and doctors were also discussed” – said Professor Rema Gvamichava.

Professor Rema Gvamichava met Daniela Kobza, Head of the Regional Cancer Registration Center in Cluj-Napoca. The parties discussed to plan a joint cancer registry.

“I also met Luciana Neamtiu, coordinator of an EU funded project about increasing the state cancer screening program capacities in Romania and Marius Mihai Popescu, Breast Cancer Screening Programme Manager. Bilateral and joint project development opportunities were discussed at the meeting. The meetings were attended by H.E. Mrs. Tamar Beruchashvili, Ambassador of Georgia to Romania. H.E. Mrs. Tamar Beruchashvili ensured to keep on supporting partnership projects important for the development of Georgia '' said Professor Rema Gvamichava.
