Medical Conference/Training: Family Planning for Women with Disabilities

from June 23 to July 2, 2021 within the framework of the UN Joint Programme “Transforming Social Protection for Persons with Disabilities” the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Georgia Country Office and Tbilisi State Medical University organized a medical conference/training: “Family Planning for Women with Disabilities” in five Georgian cities - Tbilisi, Telavi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and Batumi. The medical conference/training was funded by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Foundation.  The event was hosted by Assoc. Prof. Zaza Bokhua, Department of Reproductive Health of Tbilisi State Medical University, Prof. Giorgi Tsertsvadze, Clinic of the TSMU and Nutsi Odisharia, Social Policy Officer of the UNFPA Georgia Country Office.

The event was attended by more than 90 obstetricians, gynecologists and family doctors. Participants of the event received information about the accredited online course on “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women with Psychosocial Needs”, jointly prepared by Tbilisi State Medical University and the Office of Public Defender of Georgia, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), available on the Tbilisi State Medical University platform. The aim of the training was to discuss the challenges related to women's reproductive health. The standard operating procedure (SOP) for family planning for women with disabilities approved by the Ministry of Health, also international and local reproductive health legislation and role of health services in providing services to persons with disabilities were highlighted at the training/conference.
