TSMU was visited by Giorgi Chakvetadze, the First Deputy Chairman of the Education and Science Committee of Parliament of Georgia

Tbilisi State Medical University was visited by Giorgi Chakvetadze, the First Deputy Chairman of the Education and Science Committee of Parliament of Georgia. The First Deputy Chairman introduced the students to the legal changes on internship in public service and ongoing reforms in the field of education. He noted that meetings in diverse Georgian universities intended to raise students’ awareness about ongoing reforms and promoted their involvement in the process. The meetings have already been held at the Technical University of Georgia and the National University of Georgia (SEU).

According to the initiative of the Parliamentary Majority, amendments introduced to the Law on Public Service and Remuneration in Public Institutions envisage the consideration of internship as a working experience as of November 1, 2022, and becomes paid as of January 1, 2024. Besides, from the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year the amount of the state scholarship doubled. Giorgi Chakvetadze also talked about the Government’s decision to write off 40 million Gel tuition debt for about 30 000 students whose status had been suspended due to nonpayment.
