29 years have passed since the fall of Sokhumi

Tbilisi State Medical University students, academic and administrative staff and parents of TSMU students who died in the war of Abkhazia gathered in the yard of the university around the memorial dedicated to the memory of Vasil Kiladze, Ilia Meladze, Giorgi Mirotadze, Revaz Mumladze, Nikoloz Ghibradze. TSMU students paid tribute to the memory of students who died in the war of Abkhazia and decorated the memorial with flowers.

Professor Zurab Vadachkoria had a speech: “It is the hardest event in the history of modern Georgia. I want to highlight the war was not between Georgians and Abkhazians but armed conflict escalated by Russia. Young Georgians fell on the battlefield heroically but these boys were not fighting against Abkhazians. They were defending Georgia’s territorial integrity. Giorgi Mirotatdze was a descendant of Abkhazia and Georgia. His mother was a daughter of Abkhazian doctor and director of Institute of Urology, Professor Sokrat Arshba. It was a symbol of the great tragedy. Neither Abkhazians nor Georgians are winners in the war of Abkhazia".

Parents of TSMU students who died in the war of Abkhazia Levan Mirotadze and Nana Begishvili thanked the TSMU students, professors and administration as September 27 has always been marked as a tragic day at the university. “"While these boys are remembered they seem alive. Many thanks to TSMU for remembering their eternal life!" said Nana Begishvili.

TSMU graduate, Georgian writer and a veteran of war of Abkhazia Zurab Leshkasheli, spoke about Georgian heroes who died in the War of Abkhazia. “I am proud of Tbilisi State Medical University. Besides educating professionals, the medical university is trying to inspire the young generation with moral standards. Thank you very much for your devotion!” said the writer.
