On March 24, 2022 public lecture “New and Unforgettable Challenges" was organized at the Tbilisi State Medical University by the TSMU Self-Government, Department of Education. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Nelly Solomonia, National Center for Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. Contemporary challenges and current issues related to TB drug-resistant and multidrug-resistant forms, their prevalence, new standards of diagnosis and modern treatment protocols were discussed at the lecture. 

Each year, on March 24, World Tb Day is celebrated. The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Kokh announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, opening the way towards diagnosing and curing the disease. 

TB is a disease that might be cured based on the right treatment. Nevertheless, it remains one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases.
