Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and. Social Affairs of Georgia visited the Mikhail Shengelia Museum of Georgian Medicine History of Tbilisi State Medical University

On July 4, 2024 Mikheil Sarjveladze, Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and. Social Affairs of Georgia visited the Museum of the History of Georgian Medicine of Tbilisi State Medical University. 

Mr. Mikheil Sarjveladze handed over the medical archive of Grigol Mukhadze, founder of Georgian surgery and Doctor of Medical Sciences, to the Mikhail Shengelia Museum of Georgian Medicine History. The archive was discovered with the support of the Ministry of Culture. The museum was also visited by the Deputy Ministers Tamar Gabunia and Tea Giorgadze, as well as the First Deputy Chairman of the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee, Vladimer Kakhadze.

The guests were hosted by Professor Irakli Natroshvili Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Aleksandre Buachidze Chancellor, Professor Ramaz Shengelia Director of the museum, Vice Rectors of TSMU Professors Rusudan Rukhadze, Sophia Bakhtadze and Zurab Vadachkoria, Professor Zurab Orjonikidze Vice Chancellor of TSMU, academic and administrative staff of the medical university. 

Mr. Mikheil Sarjveladze highlighted the contributions of Academician Grigol Mukhadze to the development of Georgian surgery, noting that Grigol Mukhadze created an era of surgery in Georgia. The Minister emphasized that the academician's medical and scientific work is associated with many significant advancements in Georgian medicine. Therefore, his manuscripts, medical documents, and brochures should be accessible to a wider audience.

Grigol Mukhadze was a Georgian surgeon, a Doctor of Medical Sciences, a professor, an academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, and one of the founders of surgery in Georgia. He was one of the initiators and organizers of the Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics and the Faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State University. He founded and led the Central Blood Transfusion Station, which, at his initiative, was transformed into a scientific-research institute of blood transfusion. The academician established a powerful school of surgery, where he trained numerous surgeons.
