Within the framework of bilateral agreement between the Tbilisi State Medical University and Medical University of Innsbruck, international students Mikaela Fuchs, Oliver Elias Fuchs and Drexel Julius Jacob underwent clinical internship at TSMU Departments of Surgery, General Surgery and Pediatrics.
"There are different approaches and I always carefully monitor medical manipulations. I attended surgeries and acted as an assistant where I received a great experience." – said Oliver Elias Fuchs.
"I obtained special skills in Georgia. The Georgian experience will help me to continue my work successfully. I especially liked professors at TSMU and was able to learn a lot from them", said Mikaela Fuchs.
“I came across diverse medical cases which were discussed later with the Georgian doctors. I undergo internship at different clinical departments every week. The experience obtained at Tbilisi State Medical University is very important for my career development” said Drexel Julius Jacob.
The international students from the Medical University of Innsbruck were supervised by Professor Gia Tomadze, TSMU Department of Surgery, Professor Giorgi Asatiani, TSMU Department of General Surgery and Professor Ivane Chkhaidze, TSMU Department of Pediatrics.
On July 21, Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze, Honorary Doctor of TSMU, Senior Doctor at Radiation Therapy and Radiation Oncology Center of the Medical University of Innsbruck and one of the initiators of cooperation between Tbilisi State Medical University and Medical University of Innsbruck, visited the TSMU Department of Surgery. The Honorary guest met the students of the Medical University of Innsbruck and received detailed information about the course of their internship.
“It should be emphasized that the TSMU departments and professors received very good feedback from Austrian students. Austrian students come back to Austria with the best impressions sharing experience they got in Georgia with their colleagues, and express desire to undergo their internship at the Tbilisi State Medical University again, some of them expressed willingness to continue their studies in Georgia. Let me express the sincere appreciation and deepest gratitude to my Georgian colleagues for their generous support and sharing experience with international students. Special thanks to Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University. I am more than sure that this is one of the best ways for the development of Georgian medicine, as Europe is our home," said Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze, Honorary Doctor of TSMU”.
In addition to clinical activities at TSMU, the international students were introduced to the traditions and culture of various parts of Georgia. Tbilisi State Medical University organized a tour of Kakheti for the students of the Medical University of Innsbruck.
