Visit of TSMU delegation at the University of Santiago de Compostela

 On May 5-10, 2022 Prof. Khatuna Todadze, TSMU Vice Rector, Prof. Irma Manjavidze, Head of the TSMU Clinical Skills and Multidisciplinary Simulation Center, Assoc. Prof. Ia Avaliani, Propaedeutic of Internal Diseases Department, Assoc. Prof. Nutsa Tchipasvili, Odontology Department and Erasmus + Project Coordinator Nino Kandelaki visited University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and participated in the teachers’ training. The visit was developed within the framework of Erasmus+ project “Simulation in Undergraduate Medical Education for Improvement of Safety and Quality of Patient Care (SAFEMED+). 

The opening ceremony of the event was organized at the Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases Research Center of the University of Santiago de Compostela. The event was opened by the speeches of Prof. Maria Jose Lopez Couso, Vice Rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Prof. Víctor M. Arce invited experts and Assoc. Prof. Ia Avaliani, project coordinator. The training was delivered by Full Professor of Medical Physiology of the Santiago de Compostela University Víctor M. Arce, Prof. Sergio Cinza and Prof. Alvaro Hernandez. Computerized OSCE, organizing tests in clinical settings, post-test analysis, qualitative assessment and project related activities were discussed at the meeting. The TSMU delegation also attended the OSCE examination at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Exam assignments included emergency medical care, diagnosing pediatric and gynecological patients, first aid during injury, wound suturing, etc. Hybrid test assignments were presented at each station. The students were asked to analyze the results of various medical examinations. Specifically interesting was a student and patient with mental health problems communication. The students were asked to write a report and recommendations about a patient with mental health problems. 

At the end of the visit, the representatives of various universities participating in the project expressed their opinions about the examination process and readiness to share experience of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
