On February 11-12, 2020 Associate Professor of TSMU Epidemiology and Biostatistics Department, Nana Mebonia visited Copenhagen (Denmark). The aim of the visit was to participate in the conference on screening, organized by World Health Organization (WHO) European Office. The conference aimed to increase the effectiveness of screening programmes, maximize benefits and minimize harms in the European Region. Policy-makers, technical advisers and regional experts were invited at the conference. Health experts and policy makers dedicated much time to discuss pros and cons of screening for non-communicable diseases, based on scientific evidences and experiences of various countries. 

Assoc. Prof. Nana Mebonia presented report about development of screening programmes in Georgia. She talked about breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal and prostate cancer screening programmes and achievements and challenges in the field. 

The conference was summarized with recommendations in cancer screening programmes. The countries were advised to strengthen early cancer screening programmes according to international experts’ guidelines.
