100 years later after the occupation of Georgia, the remains of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the First Republic of Georgian, General Giorgi Kvinitadze was transferred from France to Georgia. On May 24, 2021 Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, administration and students honored the General at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. 

General Giorgi Kvinikadze is a symbol of struggle against Russian occupation. The General actively participated in establishment of the Georgian Armed Forces and the first military school. He defeated the Ottoman troops in 1918, was the Chief of the armed forces during the Armenian-Georgian War in December 1918. In 1919 under his command, the Georgian army defeated the "South-West Caucasus" (the so-called Kars Republic troops) and released Akhaltsikhe and Ardagan. In 1920 he managed to repulse attack by the 11th division of Soviet Russian. From 1918 to 1921 he took an active part in the ongoing hostilities on various fronts. After the occupation of Georgia by Soviet Russia, General Kvinitadze emigrated with other members of the government and command. He lived in France, where he died in 1970.

On May 26, 2013 General Giorgi Kvinikadze was awarded the title of National Hero of Georgia. 

Upon the decision of the Government of Georgia his remains will be laid to rest at the Mtatsminda Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on Independence Day on May 26.
