HistoryThe mission of the International School of Public Health of Tbilisi State medical University is to promote population health through implementation of high quality educational, research and service efforts on the problems of public health and health management in Georgia and the region.
International School of Public Health (ISPH), Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU), is a national leading institution for public health training, health research, and health policy development and implementation. The ISPH was established in March 2007. The school faculty members include national experts in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, health care management, health care financing, health policy and planning, etc.
Alongside with core university faculty, invited lecturersare also involved as faculty members, mainly those who have been educated/ trained in western universities and programs. Most faculty members have joint appointments, i.e. working for thepublic health institutions as well as international organizations. Professor Levan Baramidze and Chief Specialist - Associate Professor EkaMirvelashvili are working at theInternationalSchool of Public Health (ISPH).
International School of Public Health offers a wide range of topics to the individuals involved in the studying process. Epidemiology and Biostatistics includes mathematics and simulation; environmental health includes a wide range of scientific skills; Health Administration includes business and management skills; Health promotion includes struggling with risk-factors; Health education includes teaching the skills, which are necessary for elaborating population healthcare programs. Health policy provides students with the knowledge of the lawmaking processes.
The public health field offers a wide range of career opportunities.Graduates of the Public Health Master Program will be able to work in various governmental institutions, national or international NGOs, to improve the health and quality of life of the population by developing, planning, implementing and advocating prevention and improved health programs.Graduates of the Public Health Master Program will also be able to improve the knowledge in health and safety issues among the population, which will help to avoid illness and injuries in time before making focus on their treatment.In addition, graduates of the Public Health Master Program will also be able to work in health social services and institutions, including insurance companies, public and private health care institutions and social security institutions.

Master programs are elaborated for all those individuals who wish to embark on a career in public health and to gain a postgraduate degree. It is a two year Masters course (120 ECTS Credits). Master program is an opportunity to gain the public health knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to develop improved health programs and services addressing population health needs. It is suitable for district, regional/national medical/health officers and managers; communicable disease control, reproductive and child health, and other public health program officers, as well as those intending to teach public health or pursue research carrier in public health. Training firmly rooted in on-the- ground realities. Our MPH program, in line with public health education standards, consists of five core
disciplines: epidemiology and biostatistics, social and behavioral aspects of health, health policy and management, environmental health, and applied public health. Each of these disciplines has its unique educational and scientific approach or focus. Core modules of the public health are taught during the first year, whereas the students will conduct their research and study advanced modules during the second year (Master thesis), which will be focused on five coredisciplines:
epidemiology, environmental and professional health, health education, health policy and management and applied public health.and biostatistics, social and behavioral aspects of health, health policy and management, environmental health, and applied public health. The management of health and social services and establishments It is intended to provide students with methods, analytical tools and conceptual knowledge required to understand public health issues. It is based on conveying academic knowledge and basic experience related to public health and on acquiring the necessary skills for the various functions which the students, as future public health professionals, will have to carry out at local, regional, or national level of the system, both in the public and the private sectors.
The School of Public Health, TbilisiStateMedicalUniversity hasstrong partnerships with various universities and schools. Since 2017, the school has been a full member of the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER)and takes part in the forums conducted by the aforementioned association.
Requirements for the applicants
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent diploma in the following fields is required to be admitted to the master program of the "Public Health": Public Health, biology, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, stomatology, environmental protection, natural sciences, psychology, sociology, jurisprudence, economics and finance, management, business administration, information technology. Since 2009-2010 the students have been admitted through the unified master examination. In addition, after the completion of the unified master examination, students are required to take an exam in an appropriate specialization and English language.
