In 2007, by the decision of the Academic Council of Tbilisi State Medical University, for the first time in Georgia , the provider of a professional higher education - Higher Nursing School was established. Associate Professor Kakhaber Chelidze was appointed as a director of the school.
In the first year, up to 200 students, who were enrolled on the professional programs by Unified National Exams, started studying at the accredited programs of the General Profile Nurse, Dentist Assistant and Dental Technician.
Since 2008 preschool educational programs of Pharmacist’sAssistant and Medical and Pharmaceutical Devices Operator have been added to academic programs.That's why, in the same year, due to the decision of academic council, the name of Higher Nursing School was changed and it was named as the School of Professional Higher Medicine and Pharmacy, which was incorporated into the newly created the Faculty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and remains its structural unit till now.
In 2008-2009 years within the project of “ Improving Knowledge and Skills of Midwifes in Georgia", the Midwifery Education Program of the Undergraduate Studies was created with the cooperation of ETC crystal-(Netherlands), HERA XXI–(Georgia) and Nursing Rotterdam University (RUM), . In the academic years 2010-2011 the first attendance was received.
Since 2009, the School of Professional Higher Medicine and Pharmacy has been named as Professional Educational Programs. Since the same year it has been coordinated by Medea Jgharkava.
Since 2011 the programs of Bachelor's Degree of Nursing (nurse and midwife) has been enacted. In 2013-2014 the Georgian-Austrian Bachelor's Program in Nursing was elaborated with the partnerships of Tirol clinics union (Innsbruck, Austria). Since 2015 the first stream of students was received to the Georgian-Austrian Bachelor's Program in Nursing, which has been created with the partnerships of Tirol clinics union (Innsbruck, Austria).
Sins 2022 at Tbilisi State Medical University, Nursing and Midwifery Bachelor programs are implemented according with the "National Qualifications Framework" and the "Study Fields Classifier".
