The Georgian Medical Students Association (GMSA) was established on the basis of the international organization IFMSA, which was founded in 1951 and is represented in more than 140 countries around the world. IFMSA is an affiliated organization of the World Health Organization (WHO) and closely cooperates with the World Association for Medical Education (AMEE) and others.
IFMSA's primary aim is to create a platform uniting medical students around the world in order to facilitate their integration and education as future health leaders.
The Association of Medical Students of Georgia was established in 2015 and became a full member of the association in March 2018.
The organization works under the direction of 6 main committees:
• SCOME (standing committee of medical education);
• SCOPE (professional exchanges);
• SCORE (research exchanges);
• SCORP (human rights and peace);
• SCORA (reproductive health and rights);
• SCOPH (public health).
GMSA has been carrying out various activities for medical students and other interested people for many years. The projects are implemented with the support of Tbilisi State Medical University and the organization of the GMSA local committee.
